Looks like the people in the video aren't ON the tracks, just on railroad property. When 611 came around, the rule of thumb was "Stay off the ballast and you'll be fine." Though, we didn't have 125mph+ trains coming by on adjacent tracks.

So by now I'm sure we're at least familiar with these little placards on tankers (called pictograms) that allow for easy identification of what kind of substance is inside, so in case of emergency they can quickly figure out how to deal with it. But what I want to know is if the four numbers in the middle of the card are an actual identifier of the specific substance, and if so, how do you know what is what? And if not, then what do they mean?

So I've been immersing myself in a massive theft/download at parovos.com in order to make an epic slideshow... and i've noticed a couple of things: our man with the bear is A LOT better at this.

And no place looks more inviting on a chilly night than the well-lit cab of a Russian locomotive.

Just couldn't wait to the next RZD thread to save some extra "discussion resource" for it, eh?:) I promise will create it in the first days of spring.
Yep, the D100 series diesels were created based on the design of F-M 38D8 1/8 (still not copied though). There were two series in mass production, 2000 HP atmospheric 2D100 and 3000 HP boosted 10D100. First came to TE3 and TE7 series locomotives and second to all machines of TE10 family.
Not a big secret that latest TE10 variants still are among the most popular diesel locomotive series across all Space-1520. But the problem with 10D100 is that after getting mechanical charger the diesel became if not to say extremely unreliable then at least extremely freakish. In practice it is almost impossible to make it work properly beyond a repair plant. Other than that they were just old so in early 2000-s TE10s began to massively pass overhaul with modernization during which this problematic diesel is replaced with stable proved 4-stroke V16 5D49 diesel. But there are thousands of these machines in service so they couldn't be remotorized all so there are at least a couple of hundreds of 10D100 TE10s in service on Russian railway network and a bit more in other countries of Space-1520.

Interesting fact, there were two base variants of such modernization. The one by Russian transport scientific-industrial complex and the one by... General Electric. There were certain comparative tests by the results of which was made a conclusion that Russian project is noticeably better by the price/quality ratio. Also it was stated that 5D49 has less fuel and oil consumption than GE 7FDL diesel. However GE project was liked by KTZh (Kazakhstan railways, do not confuse with KTZ, Kolomenskiy diesel locomotive plant or Kolomna diesel works, the manufacturer of D49 series) and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yakutian_Railway so some of their 2TE10Ms were modernized by GE. By the way, the prototype of such modernization was remotorized with its own body and got fridge section only on one side (google 2TE10M-0881) but serial variants (2TE10MK-KN for KTZh and 2TE10MPGE for Yakutian Railway, maybe there are other differences than just name, however unsure) get Super Skid power modules.

Russian project also comes in different variants. Honestly haven't found any information on how many variants exists and what exactly is replaced except the diesels but basically there are "cheap" modernization with minimum of replaced components and "expensive" with more large renovation of equipment which includes installing of microprocessor control and diagnostics system (MSUD). Machines of the second variant generally come to more difficult ranges as more durable.
