The latest Thomas movie, the Great Race, is featuring tons of new engines based on real engines from across the globe. This article outlines where each new character's design originated:

With that many new characters, plus the endless production delays mentioned on Wikiped, I'm guessing it'll be just as much of a shitshow as the first TTTE movie. Not that this merchandising juggernaut has been producing anything but CGI vomit for the last decade or so.

Anything that gets kids interested in trains, be it uninspiring CGI or traditional models, is cool by me.

that CGI looks like a 2005 PS2 game.

I can't believe a shitty CGI movie sparked so much outrage in the press.

It's ridiculous because there are 12 new characters and only five of them are from non-White countries. Plus, the producer said these new characters are only appearing for the race in this movie, and there are no plans to re-use any of them later. The critics are crying over nothing.

Interesting how they gave the North American locomotive guard rails over his face that look like a combination of an American football helmet and a Hannibal Lecter mask...

Supposedly based on GTR #4607, which had a handrail across the front like that

So how are they going to have a Great Race between 10+ engines with, at most, a quadruple-track mainline? Knock entries out in qualifying rounds, or install several dozen crossovers?

Also, don't forget that some of the new characters are narrow gauge engines, yet they somehow run on standard gauge tracks just fine.

(I feel like i'm on /co ) I dunno.. the age group it's directed at? My son lost interest in it when it went cgi.. could be because he got older (6y) and had also discovered Dad's collection of HO trains in a cabinet. Even 6 yrs ago the cgi animation style leaves a lot to be desired. And having seen 'Zootopia' a half-dozen times i'll take ~that~ instead. And if anyone knows of an HO scale version, ping me.. I want it. :)

I haven't watched the show since I left primary school. I keep seeing this Thin Controller guy these days after trying to catch up. Did the Fat Controller die?

As a little off topic, I seem to be one of the few furfags who haven't seen the bloody thing 6 times. A lot of the ones here have seen it 6 times too. Why exactly 6?

The Thin Controller runs the narrow gauge railway up in the Sodor mountains. There is an interchange there where the standard gauge engines drop off things for the narrow gauge engines.

Heck no, I'm a Pixar/3D cgi fan. Seen Brave 20x, Frozen 12x, Inside Out 9x, Hotel Transylvania 10x, just to list a ~very~ small portion of some that I have seen.

> They did get the trains right in the movie.

They did, right down to the gentle swaying of the passenger cars as it decelerated on approach to the station. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of rail activity in this motion pic. Her journey to the city, the subway car (a la "Speed") sharing the track with that oncoming freight, the elevated HSR in the mouse sector of the city, and the LRT.
