http://en.rocketnews24.com/2016/03/27/the-train-station-that-stayed-open-for-lone-school-girl-finally-closes-down/ -- After 69, 84 and 87 years of service to the people in their little corner of Hokkaido, the outlying Shirataki (Kyu-, Kami- and Shimo-) stations close down.

What a wonderful contrast to the Shinkansen celebration.

So have the recent line closures brought about any opposition?

Nobody lives in Hokkaido. It's one of those places in Japan where having a car is a really good idea, especially when you add the brutal winter. Doesn't matter how well your life is structured, having 2-4 sucks for regular travel once you miss it. It makes the bus service in rural areas here look like a first world problem.

Admittedly, I hope the milk industry never dies. Royce' chocolate and melon milk are love.

There will always be people who will want their train, but JR Hokkaido is bleeding faster than anyone could possibly inject blood into it.

They'll have to make a choice sooner or later. Either accept that JR Hokkaido will be like never turn a profit and subsidize it as a public service like Amtrak, or shut everything down except the Shinkansen, the Sapporo-Hakodate intercity trains, and the commuter trains in Sapporo.

Good night sweet prince ;_;
