These were given to a co-worker and was told to find a good home for them and thus they ended up in my hands today. I never had any intentions of getting a steamer as my interests revolve around Canadian Pacific C-Liners circa late 1950's. All the parts appear to be present and I can see no real damage. It looks vintage though.

Some decals and detail parts. Check out those prices. I'm not even familiar with the name of the hobby store. If I were to hazard a guess i'd say these came out before 1980.

A brass PFM brand CPR caboose. Even though wood side caboose were used in the region and era i'm interested in (western end of the KVR circa 1956-ish) I kinda like the steel side caboose better. :^)

Still, the price was right.

You may want to check out the bottom of that tender mate..
Otherwise, she looks good. 8/10 gift

Oh yeah the wheel sets for the tender were in that lozenge tin.

Will need to strip that paint, swap in a can motor, and look for details to add.

I can't speak for the CP in particular, but many class ones put their remaining steamers on local freights, yard work, and other low-end tasks during dieselization just to get their money's worth out of the obsolete technology while waiting for their diesel orders to be filled. That, or buy a couple of ratty old coaches and give one of your layouts towns a tourist train. Model railroading is fun!

Well, on friday I was showing the steamer off and commented that it didn't fit into my plans. One guy knowing my interest in all things Fairbanks-Morse and early diesel Kettle Valley Railway offered to trade a new in-the-box Atlas silver series H24-66 in CPR colours for it. Turns out he models a CPR subsidiary that had lots of D10's. So the deed was done, he's happy and I finally got a TM at last.

I know that brass loco can potentially fetch a couple hundred $$$ vs. a $60 plastic Atlas unit, but I had ~0~ interest in expending effort into fixing it up. Anyways I got it free. Too bad the TM isn't a gold series, really interested in hearing the sound.

Now if only someone would come out with a quality version of the attached pic, i'd be very happy. (Hello? Rapido..?)

So in the end you got a free locomotive that is ideal for your needs, and a good story about how you got it!

Sometimes it's too easy to become focused on the dollar value. The D-10s are damn useful and very much ubiquitous, but in the end they don't fit. I'm selling a Rapido GMD-1 for the same reason, and it's probably the best locomotive I own.

Yeah, years ago I traded off a couple of Athearn GP9's and misc rolling stock when I was about 6 months into the hobby. I was using them on the club layout before I decided to focus my interest and only buy prototypical stuff.

You should be able to find a buyer for that GMD-1, by all accounts they are very good models. Someone will want it.

Lookit what I got tonight. Even though they had a short and dreadful history in the region I model, I just had to have one. The level of detail is great, the only thing I can question is the exhaust stacks and I will have to research that.

An update on the D10, he stripped the black paint off with ease. He said someone used Testors flat black on an improperly prepared brass surface so it came off real easy, it was just everywhere, wheels, motor, etc. Said it runs now, like crap as brass models from late 1950s to early 60s did. He's repowering it next then will start painting & decaling soon.
