Ah. The Sea-Pea has begun selling off parts of itself.

I'm sure he'd sell his soul to the devil if he hasn't already.

I saw them auctioning off tires from a crew van. The CP Pavilion in Calgary, where they keep their passenger stock and 2816, has been for sale for some time. That's not new, he'll sell anything that isn't nailed down! We haven't had any new power since he came on, either.

However, this is a bit different as the Arbutus has been out of use for 15 years and they've been trying to abandon it unsuccessfully. This came to a head, basically like this:
Vancouver: hey can we have this land you're not using
CP: k but it's going to cost you
V: Why, it's not like you're using it
CP: starts replacing ballast oh sure we are there's going to be trains any day now

Apparently the city reached a high enough price to convince CP to let go of it.

One more factor is that Vancouver's real estate market is absolutely balls-to-the-wall insane, it's one of the least affordable markets in the world. If I moved there, my wage would go down by $10/hr, yet the average house price would be nearly quadrupled.

So...yeah. All those things. Have a train.

In the early 90s, a bunch of community gardens sprung up along the ROW. They didn't interfere with operations, and the two coexisted for years before CP stopped running. Once they started this process, though, CP had them all bulldozed to solidify their position.
While they had that right, that still makes them a load of dick bags.

That's from when the Amtrak Cascades was short on a Talgo or two. The Superliners did a pretty good job on the Seattle-Vancouver route; the car nearest the locomotive was Business Class, followed by a fully-functioning Superliner Dining Car, and then Coach bringing up the rear.

In keeping with their reputation, they're planning to try a High Line variant. So, a bike path with trees. It's nice, but I do agree that it is a fantastic LRT opportunity.

Bloody hell.
So High Line knockoffs are the latest craze now that downtown malls and aquariums have fallen out of style?

Apparently so. Dig this case of a potential Rails-To-Trails in upstate NY that already has a perfectly functional tourist attraction running on it. Gotta have a place for people to ride their bikes!

One thing that wasn't included in the article was this beautiful render.

On the bright side, they do seem to be considering the space for an LRT in the future.

Something tells me they're just planing to keep the rails for aesthetic purposes like they did on the High Line in New York.

I read this link and I'm simply left dumbfounded . The worst is the condescending, holier-than-thou attitude of the bicyclists who want to rip more or less the whole line up. Sounds like the train was never really properly funded.

>What a bunch of bull. Not really a surprise; the railroad advocates have combed the earth to come up with every feasible reason to stop the conversion that a vast majority of people and businesses in the area connected to tourism want, an addition to the vacation and recreation venues that this great area offers. An attraction that will offer 34 miles of a trail that offers some things(not everything) for different age groups to enjoy. Biking is an activity immensely popular in this country, and one that nicely blends with other activities that people interested in vacationing here can put on their to-do list. Fact is biking on Adirondack Rds. in the Tri-Lakes area is hazardous due to various factors. Factors that this trail doesnft have, like motor vehicle traffic and daunting hills. Walkers, hikers, joggers and yes, snowmobilers in the winter can use this trail in a variety of ways.

The scumbags at vancouver city hall wanted the corridor lands for next to nothing, CP would have been a bunch of idiots to let the city get its hands on it

>>132291
If they didn't make it look like they intended to do something with it, can you imagine what socalist Canadian laws the city would try? outright confiscation, or eminent domain at some shitty buyout rate

As a former Vancouverite, I don't evny anyone having to deal with the city, its literally run by rabid socialist Nazis that prey on the hard working while coddling scumbags that come here and take advantage of people
