Got here with 5 people via a school bus. 3 are headed east towards New Orleans on trains, 2 are going to Knoxville Tennessee on bicycles. (Pic me making my way to the hop out)

I went to the museum again, I'd been there once 3 years ago. I know how to play the saw as a musical instrument and while this pretty I think it'd sound awful. Haha.

A friend bought the wristwatch for 10$
Little secret fact; I have no idea how to tell time. Little bonus fact; the reason is I spoke Spanish til the second grade, so I didn't get the time telling lesson. But thank god for digital watches amiright?

Nancy is actually a veteran Amtrak rider. She rode it back before joining the hobo way.

Nancy is trans if ya haven't picked up on that. And final picture is patches I bought. I got an Amtrak one because I've actually rode it out of Tucson to Los Angeles once. The Santa Fe patch because I lost my old patch when my hat fell off a train. And now as I type this I found out 2 kids I know just got here so I might not leave til tomorrow haha. A running joke among traveling kids is one someone says "I'm leaving in a couple of days" you say "I don't believe you" because it's never true.

Amtrak conductor hats these days look rather...idk, Napoleonic?

>>131382

Reminds me, I have a couple varieties of Pointless Arrow patch, but none of the current Amtrak logo.

>>131384

Nah I'd say they look like Conductor hats should. The old Amtrak hat looked more like an airline pilot's cap than a conductor's hat.

I have three now... One with no badge, one with a Milwaukee Road badge, and one with an older modern Amtrak badge.

Don't feel bad about not knowing how to tell time. I only learned recently for the same reason (dad taught me to count in French and Arabic).

It's really simple though. There's always two hands, a long and a short one. The long one is always minutes (because it's divided up and has to be more accurate). The short one is the hours. To tell minutes find the notch that the long hand is closest to, and count by 5's up to that notch. To tell the hour find that notch that the hand has most recently passed, and that's it!

Kinda useless this day in age, but maybe it'll help you one day if you're in an Amshack without a digital clock!

Sounds like what they're trying to do is determine how the floor of a well car is built by looking at the sides. I can't say I'm aware of any sort of pattern in curved sides (like how the one in your picture at the top is) vs something like this square one here, but they're right that newer cars have less flooring.

Also came across this while I was searching for images of well cars. Nifty concept, what does 1chan think?

Is it cheaper to make them with less floor or is it to do with the containers themselves?

Also one more thing. I was gonna leave but I got a job! So I'm staying in Tucson. It's a temp job, just during the gem show. If any of you live in the area we should meet up. I'll show good spots where trains side out or something.

A bit cheaper to make b/c less material, cuts down on weight, and some might argue about the structural benefits of a solid bottom vs some kind of truss/skeleton. Also probably prevents debris from building up in the well and getting in the way of loading, and I wouldn't be surprised if keeping y'all hobos off the trains was brought up at some point during the redesign meeting =P
